About

Geelong Sustainability Group in partnership with Friends of the Earth is seeking to put renewable energy and the need for strong action on climate on the 2014 state election agenda.

That’s why we’ve launched the Eight Months to Make a Difference state election campaign.

The Eight Months to Make a Difference model provides a structured way for the local community to engage in the state election. It involves taking eight simple steps between now and the election on November 29. The steps include things like writing to your MP and letterboxing your street.

Each of the steps build on each other and will help get sustainability and environmental issues on the agenda.

To do this we need your help – Geelong Sustainability Group is calling for interested members of the community to get involved and join us in this campaign.

Get involved
Come along to the Eight Months to Make a Difference monthly meeting. Find out how you can help put sustainability on the agenda. The meetings are friendly and informal, with no prior knowledge of politics required.

More Information
The Victorian election will be held on November 29, 2014.

This state election gives the Geelong region an opportunity to promote sustainability and seek stronger action on climate. The Geelong region has two of the top 11 marginal seats in Victoria, South Barwon and Bellarine.

Together, we can make sure renewable energy and climate change solutions feature as a key election issue.

Geelong Sustainability Group and Friends of the Earth are politically independent. We encourage all politicians to support a transition from polluting fossil fuels to clean renewable energy sources.

Information about Friends of the Earth’s state election campaigning can be found here. For more details please contact electorate coordinator Dan Cowdell [email protected] or Yes 2 Renewables coordinator [email protected]

Our first meeting – an Information Session
Eight Months to Make a Difference – Information Night

We kicked off the ‘Eight Months to Make a Difference’ state election campaign in April – It was inspiring to see so many people wanting to make a difference in their community. The sense of a common purpose and community connection was fantastic.

We now have 20 people who will take one action a month until election day to put climate change and renewable energy on the agenda!

If you’d like to get involved in this exciting campaign please come to our next meeting (see Upcoming Events above) or email Dan Cowdell.
