Update — Kevin Rudd promises to close health gap!
The Shadow Minister for Indigenous Affairs has received the first installment of our petition. Now the Opposition Leader has promised to achieve health equality for Indigenous Australians within a generation. With the ALP announcement of $261.4 million over four years to close the gap, the Coalition is now under real pressure to match their commitment.
As parties are gauging the community mood and determining their election funding priorities, every name is crucial. Please sign the petition today if you haven’t already – and then share it with friends and family.
The Federal Government delivered its budget, with more than $10 billion remaining in surplus. Yet Indigenous health only received an additional $30 million per year – just an extra ten bucks for every Indigenous Australian on top of the last budget’s increase.
Sign the urgent petition below to tell our politicians to fix this preventable crisis, and commit to achieving Indigenous health equality within a generation.
The solutions exist to close the health gap – it’s a matter of political will. The Close the Gap Coalition has released a detailed plan, and we’re calling upon all politicians to commit to it. We invite you to join the conversation on our blog.

“I call on the Australian Government to take action to achieve health equality for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders within 25 years.
That requires an increase in annual Indigenous health funding by $460 million to enable equal access to health services.”
