For a cleaner, fairer South Australia

Right now, we have the opportunity create a fairer, cleaner South Australia through taking strong action on global warming.

This is a time of rapid change as the world begins to feel the impacts of global warming. We’re already seeing increasing extreme weather events impacting our neighbours in the Pacific, the Philippines and here in Australia. At the same time, jobs in old, polluting industries are being lost because there isn’t a proper transition plan – something being felt by the Port Augusta community right now as the coal stations close.

Our organisations recognise that a massive change is imminent – to our economy, industries, communities and workforces.

Job-rich South Australia

We want to see a just transition to a cleaner, fairer, job-rich South Australia. A South Australia that respects the rights of Aboriginal people, supports workers to transition from polluting industries into clean jobs, gives fair access to the clean economy to all, and leaves young people to inherit a safer, cleaner climate.

The South Australian Government has demonstrated real leadership on climate change, and we want to work alongside Premier Jay Weatherill and his Government to successfully transition to cleaner and more sustainable industries.

In the lead up to the Paris Climate summit, we call on the South Australian Government to implement a strategy that tackles dangerous global warming and:

Gives fair access to the clean economy for all;

Extends our world leadership in renewable energy, ensuring the benefits are shared by all;

Supports workers to transition from polluting industries into clean jobs;

Reduces our carbon pollution in line with keeping global warming to 1.5 degrees.

Our organisations will be engaging our members and building partnerships in the community in the lead up to the Paris climate summit and beyond.
