2020 Ideas Forum

In April 2008, 1000 leading Australians met in Canberra to debate and shape a long-term strategy for Australia’s future at the Australia 2020 Summit. Ahead of the event, GetUp launched a 2020 Ideas Forum, allowing everyone to contribute their ideas and thoughts on what our country’s future should look like. We had over 30,000 unique visitors, 85,000 ratings were given and 4,500 ideas and comments posted! Australia 2020 delegates were invited to check out the forums in advance and on the Summit weekend we gave out a GetUp pack comprised of the best and brightest of the Forums. There were so many fantastic ideas proposed! We had the tough job of going through all of them to select 30 to give out at the Summit. To make sure that we got as many of the ideas and comments from the Forums represented, we amalgamated and joined up some topics and posts into a compilation. Have a read of the GetUp 2020 Online Ideas Forum package and keep the discussion going on in your living rooms and around your barbies.

Over the summit weekend, GetUp ACT members handed out the best ideas from the Ideas Forum. Over 100 GetUp members participated as delegates in the Summit. GetUp even hosted its own ‘2020 Nightcap’ party which would later be called the ‘social coup’ of the event. The Summit has wrapped up its discussion, but you can still click on any of the links below to see what was discussed by GetUp members and 2020 delegates. To read more about what the delegates talked about at 2020, have a look at the Final Report of the Summit.
